Baked Gouda

We have been making this baked Gouda for over 20 years. When we make it for family gatherings, we usually put the kids in charge of putting it together.  It is something that they can easily make, and, even when the directions are not followed to a “T,” it always turns out to be a delicious crowd pleaser.

Ingredients

1 seven-ounce Gouda round

1 package Pillsbury Crescent Rolls

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Unwrap Gouda.  Slice in half lengthwise.

Open Crescent Roll tube.  Remove dough.

IMG_1331

Unroll half of the dough. (It will be rectangular.)

IMG_1332

Using your index fingers, pinch all the seams in the dough together so that you no longer see any perforations.

IMG_1333

Place half of the Gouda in the middle of one of the rectangular pieces of dough.

IMG_1334

Loosely wrap the Gouda with the dough and place on parchment-paper lined baking sheet.

IMG_1336

Repeat with the other piece of dough and the other half of the Gouda.

If you want, you can pull off the excess dough on top and make decorations.  (Here, I made a simple flower decoration.  We pulled off the excess dough at the top of each prepared Gouda, separated the dough into one large and six smaller pieces, rolled each of these pieces into a ball, and placed the pieces on top of the prepared Gouda to resemble the face of a flower.)

Bake at 350 degrees for 22-24 minutes, until golden brown, turning the pan after 11 minutes.

Let sit for 10 minutes.

Slice into 4 or six pieces and serve.
